Synopsis A bitter chicken farmer frets about her future when a wet and distressed traveler arrives. The boy lost all his possessions, except his goose, when he dove into the river to save a mysterious golden winged woman. The selfish farmer agrees to help only if he gives up his beloved goose. When she discovers the goose lays golden eggs, she showers the goose with special treats, while neglecting her hard- working chickens. The old woman goes on frivolous spending sprees in a quest to become a fine lady. Certain she will not be happy until she buys an over-priced glamorous gown, the impatient brute plans to cut open the goose to get more gold more quickly. In the nick of time, the fabled fairy appears and changes the goose back into a regular egg-layer. This tale illustrates that happiness cannot be purchased and that everyone is special and should be treated accordingly.
